Live-station layers now include official wind observations from DWD, GeoSphere Austria and MeteoSwiss. Individual providers can be shown or hidden in the map layer menu; MeteoGate remains an optional layer.
Expired recommendation snapshots are recalculated when requested, so valid flying sites no longer disappear solely because their cached assessment is old.
Thermal profiles are easier to read on phones and desktops: the emagram fits the site details panel, hours can be selected, and wind and buoyancy details can be opened when needed. The thermal calculation is unchanged.
24–26 October 2026
MeteoGate wind observations and the public Reichenbach weather station add more live measurements to the map, with source and freshness information.
Thermal details again show the temperature–dew-point spread, and the hourly thermal table appears alongside the other thermal information in site details.
18 October 2026
Forecast recommendations and OGN site activity are expanding to 44 countries within the ICON-EU coverage area: the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria are joining, together with the remaining Balkan countries, Turkey, Cyprus, Malta, Iceland, Israel, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, the Baltic states, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein and Andorra. Recommendations appear as the initial weather imports complete.
Additional APRS weather stations appear in the live-station layer with an AP badge, wind direction, wind speed and gusts. Older readings are shown in grey.
APRS track coverage now also includes previous gaps in western France, eastern Poland and the Baltic region. Improved filtering separates conflicting aircraft reports while preserving valid track sections.
17 October 2026
Even light radar precipitation directly at a flying site now prevents a live_now status and false live alerts. Weak precipitation farther away is not treated as a blanket blocker.
Flying-site search, personal site alerts and the management tools are accessible again from the appropriate public, account and admin views.
A compact flag in the map header switches directly between the German and English map while preserving the selected search.
15 October 2026
The map, public flying-site pages and country or region directories are available in German and English and can be discovered through the sitemap.
Flying-site pages show the date of the underlying DHV source data.
DWD radar and nowcast data are considered for current recommendations. Fresh clear radar can override model rain, while detected precipitation remains restrictive.
3 October 2026
Suitable fresh live wind can override a conflicting forecast direction. Forecast/live mismatches remain visible instead of silently producing a green marker.
30 September 2026
Historical forecast-versus-live comparisons make recurring local model deviations visible.
Live station trends help distinguish a current measurement from a developing wind situation.
September 2026
A regional morning and afternoon summary adds temperature, wind, cloud and precipitation to the map.
Recent launches, landing sites and compact capability symbols make unfamiliar flying areas easier to assess.
Native ICON wind profiles and links to XContest and KK7 thermal maps extend site assessment.
European APRS and OGN coverage expands live tracks; aircraft names are only shown where publication is permitted.
August 2026
Personal live-site alerts can be delivered by web push or email and are limited to relevant daytime conditions.
Native DWD winds-aloft profiles, daily longest flights and improved mobile track displays add more context to each site.
The compact mobile header and faster bundled map make the full-screen map easier to use on the move.
July 2026
A public forecast preview makes the map useful without an account; live wind, tracks and alerts remain protected account features.
Best window, today, tomorrow and the following days can be compared directly on the map.
OGN tracks can be pinned with an altitude profile, and Paraplaner can be installed as a mobile web app.
June 2026
Holfuy and OpenWindMap stations are combined with forecasts, freshness checks and direct station links.
Winds aloft, shear, gust spread, cloud base and thunderstorm signals make weather restrictions more transparent.
May 2026
The map-first mobile interface brings flying sites, forecast windows, live wind and filters together in one view.
Live-supported sites, OGN tracks and detailed site popups add current local context to the forecast.
